Looking back on my career, coaching has been a significant part of it. Starting a business and earning people's trust with their career dreams, fears, and challenges has been exciting and humbling.

I don't have all the answers. But my experiences have put me in your shoes, facing similar challenges and uncertainties. I've learned some crucial lessons to make our coaching time more effective.

My career has been packed with experiences that have given me the confidence to be a good coach. Working with talented professionals and leading teams has given me different angles to see things and make good decisions with you.

I've spent over 40 years as a Senior Business Development Executive for big companies like Eastman Kodak, American Express, and Ernst & Young (EY). I've coached professionals at all career stages, from beginners to top leaders, gaining insight into how people grow.

At EY, I spent 20 years helping many client-serving professionals. Talking with clients inside and outside the firm has given me a rounded view of technical and social career coaching. These coaching experiences have helped me understand people better and see what makes businesses succeed. I've improved at identifying risks and what leaders must do to excel.

Here's my promise: I'll use what I've learned, my different viewpoints, and the lessons I've picked to help you have a more fulfilling professional and personal life. I'm all about helping you grow and succeed, and I am committed to being there for you at every step. We'll work together to determine your career path, tackle challenges, and unlock your potential.

My mission to fulfill
my life purpose.

Throughout my 40-year career, I faced numerous challenges and leadership hurdles that often stressed me. Confidence was challenging, and recognizing my strengths was a constant struggle. Early life experiences fueled a fear that drove me to over-prepare, always aiming for perfection to hide my anxiety.

The fear of success and the nagging worry about being seen as a fraud led me to doubt my instincts and abilities. The constant concern about judgment and scrutiny could have easily derailed my progress. I grappled with negative thoughts without a mentor or coach, but my determination pushed me to take risks, face setbacks, and step outside my comfort zone.

Despite the lack of a guiding figure, I embraced the transformative power of learning from mistakes. During these tough times, I reshaped my approach to challenges. Today, I confront difficulties with purpose, welcoming change with a positive attitude. I've realized that growth and happiness in our careers require a departure from the status quo.

Without a mentor or coach, I honed my resilience, pushing through moments of self-doubt. The hard lessons learned have crystallized into wisdom, and I've identified my life's purpose—to share the invaluable insights and experiences accrued over the years. I aim to be a guiding force for others, helping them see the broader picture and discover fulfillment in the face of complexity.

My journey has equipped me to empower others, making their professional endeavors more manageable. By sharing my story, I hope to inspire and guide individuals on their paths to success, epitomizing my true calling, my "why."

The backstory of
One Step Up.

Just as music has been a source of inspiration for me, I hope to offer that same inspiration to others. The name and imagery of "One Step Up" define the authentic purpose of my new business—to help professionals who feel lost and unsure of their path to find their way forward, to discover their true potential, and to step up to the greatness they deserve.

I've always loved music, and one song that moves me is Bruce Springsteen's "One Step Up" from his Tunnel of Love album. The lyrics in this song talk about feeling lost and hurt in a broken relationship.
"When I look at myself
I don’t see the man I wanted to be
Somewhere along the line I slipped off track
I’m caught movin’
One Step Up and two steps back"

When I think about those lyrics, I see them as a powerful way to consider the challenges people face in their careers.
Sometimes, we look at ourselves and don't see who we want to be. We might have taken a wrong turn somewhere, and it feels like we're moving forward one step but then slipping back two.

But my goal is to help you and others level up in your professional lives. I want to give you the power to improve your skills, face challenges confidently, and improve your game. By accepting the unique challenges and pressures in our careers, we can go from feeling broken to being proud of who we are.

With my career experiences and knowledge, I hope to inspire you to have the courage to leave your comfort zone and grow. I'm dedicated to offering support and guidance to help you make positive changes in your professional life.

Just like music inspires me, I want to inspire others. The name and idea of "One Step Up" show the real purpose of my new business—to help professionals who feel lost and unsure find their way, discover their full potential, and rise to the greatness they deserve.

A bit more
about me.

In my 40+ years in the business world, I have seen a great deal and have learned many valuable lessons. I firmly believe I am responsible for paying these lessons forward and sharing this knowledge and wisdom. My dad, my life role model, would often encourage me to adopt this approach.

As a feeling and sensitive man who is comfortable in his skin, I welcome and embrace vulnerability as a considerable asset. Real progress is possible in coaching and life when emotions and authenticity enter the picture. I enjoy helping others see these as strengths.

Family is fundamental to achieving balance in this world. They are my foundation and life force that moves me forward. My family has always provided me with the much-needed perspective to live a rich life. I honor them with the work I am now doing and the support I provide to others to live productive lives.

I will do all I can each day to light the path for professionals seeking balance, perspective, and confidence.

You have my promise.

from decades of experience.

While coaching is something I feel I have been engaged in my entire career, starting a business, and asking professionals to entrust you with their career hopes, fears and obstacles is a big step.

I don’t profess to have all the answers, and I know I still have much to learn. However, I can say without hesitation that I have probably walked in your shoes at one time or another. I can relate to the challenges you may be facing and have put in the work to gain many valuable perspectives. Many hard-fought lessons helped me to manage my uncertainties many times. These lessons will prove to be invaluable in our coaching experience together.

Being blessed with a very diverse and rewarding career enables me to show up each day with confidence that I can have a favorable coaching impact. I have also been highly privileged to work with and lead some very talented professionals. These experiences will enable me to partner with you to arrive at reasonable conclusions and decisions.

As a highly successful Senior Business Development Executive with over 40 years of experience in Consulting, Business Development, and Sales Management for global organizations including Eastman Kodak, American Express, and Ernst & Young, I have coached professionals across the entire career lifecycle. Years of experience recruiting and coaching business professionals through career development challenges provide me with unique people development insights.

In my 20 years at Ernst & Young, I served as an informal coach and mentor to numerous Partners and other senior professionals. The countless internal and external client interactions were instrumental in developing career coaching expertise from technical and social perspectives. These coaching experiences have provided me with an incredible knowledge of the human condition and what contributes to true business success. They have also helped me to develop an ability to examine risks to determine the best course of action for leaders to succeed.

You have my commitment that I will utilize these skills, perspectives, and lessons learned to help you realize greater professional and personal fulfillment.

My mission to fulfill
my life purpose.

My 40-year journey was far from smooth sailing. I did not always own my strengths and operate with confidence.

I stumbled through several roles and leadership challenges, and the experiences were humbling and stressful. Too often, I showed up in the workplace operating with a great deal of fear, caution, and perfectionism. These were traits formed very early in life. I would routinely be over-prepared so that nobody could detect the fear gripping me. Fear of success and fear of being exposed usually held me back. Doubts about my strengths and instincts, and worries about being judged, veered me off track.

For most of my career, I wasn't fortunate to work with a mentor or coach to help deal with the self-defeating narrative in my head. Often, I was a prisoner to the caution in my mind. The fearful and self-limiting mindset could easily have derailed my career, but I was able to fight my way through. Through many risks, setbacks, and a great deal of sweat, I pushed my way out of my comfort zone. Finding the best version of ourselves often requires trial and error.

The hard work and tough lessons learned helped me meet adversity with more purpose and approach change with a great deal more optimism. Eventually, I realized that professional growth and fulfillment were not possible from being content with the status quo.

I want to pass on what I've learned. I want to assist you in seeing the broad picture and discovering that greater fulfillment exists, even if you can't see it right now.

If I can reach into the minds and hearts of others with wisdom and experience to help them feel better about their professional future and ease their journey, I feel like I am fulfilling my purpose in this life… "My Why."

The backstory of
One Step Up.

I draw tremendous inspiration from music, a lifelong passion. One of my favorite songs is Bruce Springsteen's track "One Step Up" from his Tunnel of Love album. As is the case with most of Springsteen's songs, the lyrics of the entire song are poetic, emotional, and eloquent. The theme focuses on a broken relationship, and the hopelessness and anguish felt.‍
"When I look at myself
I don’t see the man I wanted to be
Somewhere along the line I slipped off track
I’m caught movin’
One Step Up and two steps back"

I want to help you come forward and rise to a higher level as a professional. Restrengthen your capabilities. Feel more comfortable week after week in meeting challenges. Step up your game and be the person you are proud of when you look at yourself in the mirror.

I hope that the experience and knowledge I gained throughout my career can empower you and others to find the courage to step out of your comfort zone and Step Up to your growth zone to pursue positive changes in your professional life.

Music is unique because the lyrics and stories often speak to me as inspiration I can offer others.

The chosen lyrics of One Step Up are a metaphor for some professionals who may feel a little broken and who need to assume responsibility for managing unique career challenges and pressures.

They look in the mirror and are not content with what they have achieved and with who they are, professionally. So many professionals have somehow veered off the career track and are not sure how to find the right path forward.

They are tired of taking a step up and often feel like they are taking steps back.

This name and imagery of One Step Up define my new business purpose.
